More medications are being prescribed than ever before,
but Britain is sicker than ever
460 people a day
die from heart and circulatory disease in the UK. That’s one person every three minutes.
5.5 million
people in the UK could be living with diabetes by 2030 – around 1 in 10 adults.
1 in 3
UK adults have high blood pressure right now, rising to 6 in 10 by the time we’re 65.
£126 billion a year
is what obesity-related ill health costs the UK economy, before counting what it costs quality of life.
What once was a disease of ageing, cardio-metabolic conditions are now prevalent in children as well as adults of all ages.
High blood sugar, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, fatty liver, higher body weight. But why?
Insulin resistance and inflammation develop silently for a decade or more before it ever shows up on a standard blood test to trigger a diagnosis and therefore action. But are these symptoms silent, or are they things we’ve begun to normalise in modern society?
From the food system to behaviours, insulin resistance and normalised symptoms that leave us sicker than we realise. This is where most of my passion and work starts, and it’s where most of my talks start too.
I’m Natalie, and I speak to everyone – the public, clinicians, practitioners, health brands and work teams – about cardio-metabolic health, what’s really driving it, how to spot it earlier and not dismiss the signs, and what actually changes outcomes.
I'm still in clinic every week.
I hear from real people every day.
I help turn scientific evidence into real-life practice
My clinical and work experience means the cases I bring to my presentations are current. The questions I answer are the ones practitioners are being asked by the people seeking help. The frameworks I share have not only come from clinical evidence, but they have been tested on real people with real constraints, not simply designed for research trials and left untested amongst the realities of life.
The experience I bring comes from places outside the clinic too:
- Shaping nutritional supplement strategy as Head of Nutrition at Tonic Health;
- Representing the profession as a BANT spokesperson;
- Guest lecturing for the Institute of Optimal Nutrition (ION);
- Training healthcare professionals on behalf of Lingo (an Abbott company) on applying continuous glucose monitoring in preventative care.
To expand my current knowledge, I’m currently completing an MSc in Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine at the University of Worcester.
This isn’t abstract for me either. Cardio-metabolic disease runs on both sides of my own family with high blood sugars, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, atrial fibrillation and dementia preceding me through at least four generations. This is a big part of why I push for the practical prevention approach alongside the scientific understanding – I need to implement it too.
Audiences tend to describe my style as clear, practical and free from hype but full of hope. I don’t do scare tactics, and I don’t oversimplify. I explain the physiology, unpick the data, and then I explain what to do with it.
Talks and topics
Every talk is tailored to the time available and the audience, from nutrition practitioners to nurses and GPs, health brands and media panels, and the general public.
These are some of the themes I’m most often asked to cover:
How insulin resistance occurs, which markers move first, signs and symptoms to look out for, and why ‘normal bloods’ so often delay intervention until the window for prevention has closed.
Attendees leave able to: spot the early markers of insulin resistance before standard bloods flag it, and know which questions to ask when a patient’s results look “normal” but their history doesn’t.
Delivered for ION, ‘Metabolic Syndrome: how multiple conditions collide’. Discussed in the press.
What good nutritional care looks like alongside GLP-1 therapy – protecting muscle mass, managing side effects and planning for what happens when the medication stops.
Attendees leave able to: build a nutrition plan that protects muscle mass alongside GLP-1 therapy, manage the common side effects in-clinic, and prepare patients for what happens when treatment stops.
Delivered for Pure Encapsulations event, ‘Nutrition-Based Management of Metabolic Health in the GLP-1 Therapy Era’.
CGMs, glucose variability and the case for earlier intervention. What continuous glucose data tells us that HbA1c doesn’t, and how glycaemic variability sits within the wider picture of biological ageing.
Attendees leave able to: read glucose variability data with confidence, explain what CGM adds beyond HbA1c, and use it to justify earlier intervention.
Delivered at NMI Summit 2026 and BNFM 2026.
Moving beyond total cholesterol. The role of systemic inflammation, gut and oral microbiome, and dietary modulators – and how to translate them into something an individual can actually act on.
Attendees leave able to: move a cardiovascular conversation beyond total cholesterol, and translate inflammation and microbiome markers into one or two actions a patient can realistically take.
Delivered at the BANT Cardiovascular CPD webinar
Built specifically for time-poor GPs and healthcare professionals. What to prioritise, what to leave out, and the small number of things worth saying when you only have 10 minutes.
Attendees leave able to: prioritise the two or three things worth saying in a time-pressured consultation, and know what to safely leave out.
Delivered at the Best Practice Show, London and Birmingham
Energy crashes, the 3pm slump, shift patterns, stress, burnout and the cost of poor metabolic health to a workforce. How to tackle the pressure of modern work structure with realistic actions and sustainable approaches.
Attendees leave able to: recognise the workplace patterns that drive energy crashes and burnout, and apply realistic, sustainable changes without a wellness overhaul.
Delivered for Network Rail via Qured, Sonovate, Paysafe and Enthuse
