Using GLP-1s? Here’s what’s often missing from the conversation

GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro are everywhere right now. They’re discussed in the media, shared on social platforms, and increasingly prescribed in clinics. For many people, they offer something that has felt out of reach for years: quieter food noise, better appetite control, and the possibility of weight loss without constant struggle.

But alongside the success stories, there’s a quieter conversation happening too.

People experiencing nausea, digestive discomfort, fatigue, hair loss, or anxiety about what happens when the medication stops. Others feel unsure whether they’re eating enough, worried about muscle loss, or confused about why their progress has stalled despite doing “everything right”.

And for most, there’s very little guidance beyond a prescription.

GLP-1s are powerful, but they’re not a complete plan

GLP-1 medications work by mimicking a hormone your body already produces. They slow digestion, help regulate blood sugar, and communicate with appetite centres in the brain. This is what makes you feel fuller sooner and less driven by cravings.

But appetite suppression doesn’t automatically equal metabolic support.

When appetite drops quickly, it’s easy to unintentionally under-eat. Protein intake often falls. Fibre drops. Micronutrients are missed. Muscle can be lost alongside fat. Digestion slows further, and side effects can creep in.

For some people, GLP-1s also expose underlying issues that were already present — such as insulin resistance, inflammation, poor bile flow, or gut imbalances. Without support, these can make the experience harder than it needs to be.

Why do experiences with GLP-1s vary so much?

One of the most confusing aspects of GLP-1s is how differently people respond.

Two people can take the same medication at the same dose and have completely different outcomes. One feels energised and in control. The other feels exhausted, nauseous, or stuck.

This often comes down to what’s happening beneath the surface.

Blood sugar regulation, liver health, gut function, inflammation, and hormones like leptin and adiponectin all influence how the body responds, not just to GLP-1s, but to weight loss itself. When these factors aren’t addressed, side effects are more likely, and long-term results can be harder to maintain.

The real concern: what happens next?

Weight loss may feel easier on GLP-1s, but many people worry about what happens when they reduce or stop the medication.

Rebound weight gain isn’t inevitable, but it is more likely when weight loss occurs without protecting muscle, metabolism, and long-term habits. GLP-1s can create a window of opportunity, but what you do during that window matters.

This is where informed, personalised support makes a difference.

A guide to help you do this well

We created a free guide – GLP-1 drugs: how to reduce side effects, support your metabolism, and prevent rebound weight gain – because we saw too many people navigating this alone.

The guide is designed to help you understand:

  • What GLP-1 medications are actually doing in your body
  • Why side effects happen and what they may signal
  • What to prioritise nutritionally when appetite is low
  • How to protect muscle and metabolic health
  • And why rebound weight gain happens — and how to reduce the risk

It’s not a diet plan, and it’s not anti-medication. It’s a clear, evidence-informed context to help you feel confident and supported, whatever stage you’re at.

If you’re using GLP-1s, or thinking about it, and want weight loss to support your long-term wellbeing, this guide is a valuable place to start.
