Success Story: Emma reclaims her energy and drops 13lbs with more ease than she could have imagined

Counting calories, walking the school run, doing all the things she was told would shift the weight, and still hitting a wall. Then came the pre-diabetes diagnosis. Eight weeks later, Emma was 13lbs lighter, sleeping properly, and her eczema had cleared up for the first time in her life. This is how she got there, and what you can do if you’re standing where she was.

Emma had been on a health kick: counting calories to lose weight and walking her son to school each morning rather than driving. But she’d hit a plateau. Weight loss had stopped and the usual methods weren’t kick-starting it again. She was feeling tired, needed snacks to keep her going, and every day felt like hard work.

As a Registered Nutritional Therapist specialising in blood sugar and insulin resistance, I sit with people every week who are doing all the right things on paper and getting nowhere. The reason is almost always the same: the body has stopped responding to the inputs they’re giving it. Book a free 20-minute call if any of that sounds familiar.

When Emma saw the launch of That Blood Sugar Fix, our signature group programme, she jumped at the chance and was the first to sign up. Here’s how she transformed in eight weeks.

Dieting and diagnoses make life feel hard

Emma knew she needed to focus on her food. After her GP delivered a pre-diabetes diagnosis, she was shocked into action. It wasn’t the news she expected, and it was frightening. She was determined to turn things around.

The calorie counter came out. The car keys got left in the drawer more often. Emma began to move more and watched what she was eating.

Weight loss started to happen, and knowing the calorie count of certain foods was useful for a while. But soon Emma hit a wall and nothing was working. This is the moment we see most often in clinic: the textbook advice has stopped working, and no one is telling you why. The ‘why’ is almost always sitting in your blood sugar response, which calorie counting cannot show you.

There was an issue with the Zoe programme

The popular Zoe programme caught Emma’s eye. What if her blood sugars and gut health held the answers? Great question, and the right one to ask.

Zoe, run by Professor Tim Spector and his team, is a research-led programme offering the chance to test your microbiome via a stool sample and wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor to see how your blood sugars respond to the foods you eat.

PREDICT, the study Zoe participants’ data is collected for, is the largest in-depth nutrition study in the world. It’s an exciting thing to be part of, but a few things didn’t suit Emma:

  • There’s no one to talk to about your personal health and circumstances.
  • There is a long waitlist to get started.
  • There is an ongoing cost to continue using the app services.

Wearing a CGM without someone who can interpret it is a bit like buying an MRI scanner and no radiologist. An expert opinion on continuous glucose monitoring gives you the wider picture on why this matters. When Emma heard about That Blood Sugar Fix, she jumped at the chance to wear a CGM with a Nutritionist alongside her, answering her questions in real time.

That Blood Sugar Fix fixed Emma

Emma was first to sign up for her cohort (every cohort has limited availability). She got the CGM, the structure, and a community of people working on the same thing at the same time.

The bit that made the difference for Emma was that I was there every step of the way. Nutrition is confusing on its own. Wearing a device that spits out blood sugar numbers without anyone to interpret them can be overwhelming.

If you’re going to invest in health technology, you want to make the most of it. That’s why That Blood Sugar Fix exists. My job in the programme is to teach you what your response to food actually means, what to change, and crucially, how to make those changes stick.

“Working with Natalie has been transformational. I am now armed with the knowledge to make nutritious and healthy choices that nourish my body, control my blood sugars and keep me satiated.” Emma

Emma’s results from That Blood Sugar Fix

After eight weeks Emma had:

  • Lost 13lbs
  • Started sleeping properly
  • Steady energy through the day, no more 3pm dip
  • No more cravings (read that one again)
  • Better digestion, with the bloating and heavy fullness gone
  • Mood lifted, mood swings settled
  • A lower resting heart rate
  • Eczema cleared up for the first time in her life

All in eight weeks. The eczema is the one that catches people. Skin is downstream of inflammation, and inflammation is downstream of blood sugar. When you fix the root, the surface clears.

Emma is no longer apprehensive about her next round of GP blood tests. Looking at the difference between her first CGM readings and her final ones, she’s confident the pre-diabetes diagnosis will not stick. Pre-diabetes is one of the most reversible conditions we work with when someone is ready to move on it, and Emma absolutely was.

“The benefits have been endless.” Emma

So how does That Blood Sugar Fix work?

This is our signature group programme, taught online, built on a simple three-step process:

Step one: find out how your current food and lifestyle are affecting your blood sugars by wearing a Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) for two weeks. I’ll guide you through fitting the device, reading the data, and understanding what it actually means.

Step two: step-by-step training on how to improve blood sugar control, cravings and energy. You’ll put it into action straight away with group support and my input every week.

Step three: wear a second CGM to see the difference. You’ll have the data, the habits and the understanding to keep going.

Training sessions sit alongside a private community for the questions that come up between sessions. Everything is recorded and the resources stay with you. This is where most people get stuck working on blood sugar alone: the data is interesting, but without someone to interpret it and tell you what to change, the numbers don’t move.

Ready for results like Emma’s?

You don’t need to be fixed. Your blood sugars might. When they are, as Emma’s story shows, you get your life back: real energy, sleep that restores you, food that doesn’t control you, and bloods that move in the right direction.

There are three ways to take the next step with us, depending on where you are right now.

Just looking and want to learn: download our free blood sugar walking guide for the simplest single habit that moves blood sugar in days, not months.

Want to know exactly where you stand: a Wellness Check gives you full blood work and a clinical interpretation so you can see whether pre-diabetes or insulin resistance is already in play.

Ready to do what Emma did: join That Blood Sugar Fix, our signature CGM-led programme. Two CGMs, structured teaching, and a Registered Nutritional Therapist alongside you the whole way.

If a programme isn’t right for you, Lou’s story of coming off medication after dropping 44kg is a good read on what 1-1 work can do, and you can always book a free 20-minute call and we’ll point you to the right next step.

If you want to reclaim your relationship with food and your body then let’s fix your blood sugars and watch those results roll in.
