Zoe has done it again. In January, the £2 a day Gut Shot had people lining up. Now, six months later, Zoe's second product, Daily30+, a wholefood supplement, is generating buzz once again.
Natalie has explored the research behind this new supplement, the variety of ingredients and nutrients it provides, how its cost stacks up against other options, and the benefits you can look forward to.
Tim Spector’s advice to consume 30 different plant foods a week has captivated health enthusiasts and evolved from the government’s long-standing five-a-day campaign. Increasing your plant variety to 30 foods a week is a simple, enjoyable goal that supports farmers, adds colour to your shopping cart, and gets everyone, including children, involved in healthy eating. What’s not to like?
But with the release of the latest Zoe food product, why is there a sudden shift to 30 plant foods daily? Is there confusion between 30 plants and 30 grams of daily fibre?
Zoe’s new Daily30+ wholefood supplement promises to elevate this concept, but is it truly worth the investment, or just another marketing gimmick?
It certainly packs a nutritional punch with ingredients like flaxseed, chia seeds, garlic, mushrooms, and anti-inflammatory herbs. However, these ingredients are also available in less expensive forms and can be easily incorporated into meals, emphasising the importance of chewing whole foods for proper digestion.
Research standards are crucial, and while Zoe has criticised industry-funded studies for potential bias, their own research on Daily30+ raises questions. Despite being a randomised controlled trial, the small participation size and methodology make the findings less compelling.
Accessibility is another consideration. Zoe products are available in high-end supermarkets like M&S and Waitrose, making them less accessible to the general population. At £568 a year, Daily30+ may be out of reach for many. And if we get real for a second, can’t you get your 30g of fibre and 30 plant foods from nature’s foods at a lower cost?
While Daily30+ offers a convenient way to boost your diet with a good balance of protein, fats, and fibre, it’s not a failsafe solution.
